With reference to the recent trial & conviction of the 8th Regiment of 2 Sikhs, Waerkaht & Gommatio Pungaut Infantry, of the crime of manslaughter, I have the honor to lay before V. E. the following remarks which induce me to request V. E. will reconsider their case and if possible remit the remainder of their punishments.

  1. That the prisoners were convicted solely on their own confession, & from the report of the Judge, Your Sai H. Robison, which they made.
